AGSM HOSTS WORKSHOP FOR THE 2020 ACCOUNTING STUDENT PROJECT

Accounting leaders recently gathered at UCR's A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management for The 2020 Student Project, which is designed to produce an effective curriculum for the auditing, assurance, and accounting student of the year 2020.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (agsm.ucr.edu) - The A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management (AGSM) recently hosted a workshop called The 2020 Student Project on January 23, 2009. Leaders in the accounting field brainstormed and explored the design of a curriculum for the auditing, assurance, and accounting student of the year 2020. Among those in attendance for the day-long event were professionals in the field who work with a changing environment and potentially hire graduates, key industry associations, as well as academics from leading accounting programs including:

  • UC Berkeley
  • Northeastern University
  • University of Texas
  • University of Hawaii
  • University of Illinois
  • University of Maastricht, The Netherlands
  • CSU Northridge

Each participant came prepared with ideas on long-term strategic thinking about the future audit & assurance environment and the ideal knowledge and skills a person joining that environment should have.  It is envisioned that this project will provide recommendations concerning the core competencies, communication skills, problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and knowledge a student will need as she or he enters the profession in the year 2020.

This project was made possible through a gift from Ernst & Young along with a curriculum grant from UCR.
