Former Executive Fellow Craig Blunden speaks on campus about the rise and fall of the real estate banking

Craig Blunden, CEO of Provident Savings Bank, spoke on campus today as part of the 3rd event in the Dean's Speaker Series. Mr. Blunden shared his experience in the financial services industry. Not only has he served as the Director of Provident Savings Bank since 1975, he also serves as the Director of The Inland Empire Economic Partnership, the Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce, and etc. He emphasized on the importance of a positive work environment as a key to his success at Provident Bank. "When somebody finds something they love to do with people they like, they tend to stick around."

Craig is Chairman and CEO of Provident Savings Bank.  Prior to his appointment as president in May 1990, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Riverside-based financial institution.

Mr. Blunden’s career in banking has spanned more than 40 years, most of that time with Provident.  After earning a master’s from UCR, he joined First Federal Savings and Loan in Phoenix as a management trainee. After two years in Phoenix, he returned to Provident as a vice president in the retail banking division and then served in various management positions with the bank.

His involvement with UCR continues with organizations such as the Graduate School of Management as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council and a former Executive Fellow, and as the 1998 Management Leader of the Year.  Craig also is a member of the Citizens University Committee and past Chairman.  In addition, he was a member of the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees for 14 years.

The Dean’s Speaker Series brings successful leaders in the business community to share their expertise. Designed to foster critical discussions about business issues, it also provides networking opportunities between corporate executives and business students. Dean’s speakers have achieved national and international prominence in their respective fields and represent a diversity of cultural, political and economic perspectives.
