CFO of Ware Malcomb, a leading national design firm, speaks on Campus

Tobin Sloane, UCR School of Business Administration alumnus, spoke on campus about the road after graduation

 

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — The University of California, Riverside School of Business Administration continued with its second Dean’s Speaker Series  on November 20th, with a talk by an alumnus who is a leader in financial management industry.

Tobin Sloane is an Executive Fellow at the School of Business Administration. He is the CFO of Ware Malcomb, a leading national design firm, providing planning, architectural, interior design, graphic design and civil engineering services to commercial real estate and corporate clients throughout the world.  Established in 1972, the firm has 17 offices throughout the United States and Toronto, Panama City, and Mexico City. As the CFO since 2004, Mr. Sloane is an accomplished financial professional and business-savvy leader, bringing over 21 years of experience in financial analytics, accounting, management and operational leadership.

Mr. Sloane talked about the da Vinci principles and for current and graduating SoBA students to have a “Renaissance mindset" of always learning and embracing your curiosity. Among the seven da Vinci principles for optimizing human potential, and from his own experience, such keys to success were Curiosità - an insatiable quest for knowledge and continuous improvement, Sfumato - managing ambiguity and change, and Arte/Scienza - whole-brain thinking.

Mr. Sloane is well known for his strategic and innovative approach to the company’s financial management and growth, with a strong commitment to fiscal discipline to ensure the overall health of the firm. He holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting and a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Business Administration, both from the University of California, Riverside.

The Dean's Speaker Series brings successful leaders in the business community to share their expertise. Designed to foster critical discussions about business issues, it also provides networking opportunities between corporate executives and SoBA students. Dean’s Speakers have achieved national and international prominence in their respective fields and represent a diversity of cultural, political and economic perspectives.
