SoBA News

SoBA business students delivered their final business plan presentations with their clients from the Bourns College of Engineering

For the past four years, Bourns senior design teams partner with selected SoBA students to create competitive business plans.  In the winter term, bio-engineering seniors are required to create a working prototype of a product and in the spring term, mechanical engineers create their prototypes.

On Friday, March 13, 2015, twenty-four SoBA business students delivered their final business plan presentations with their clients from the Bourns College of Engineering. Industry leaders in bio-engineering served as the panel of judges.

Dr. Hyle Park of Bourns and Dr. Sean Jasso of SoBA lead the collaboration ‎throughout the winter term.  SoBA students enter a competitive selection process ‎and are required to have taken the upper-division strategy course. The consultants are selected in late fall term when they are introduced to their engineering clients. During this time, the clients and consultants meet for three weeks and hear lectures from Dr. Jasso on strategic management and by the start of winter term, the program is in full operation.

The included photos show the SoBA consultants and Bourns engineers at Chung Hall as they defended their ‎prototypes and business plans last Friday.

The SoBA Consultancy remains an important ‎program of UCR's School of Business Administration's competitive portfolio.
