SoBA Climb Team

This summer, a team of SoBA alums hiked the famous "Three Devils" mountain peaks - Mt. Baldy (10,064 feet), Mt. San Jacinto (10,834 feet) and Mt. San Gorgonio (11,503 feet).

The three mountains are among the highest summits in Southern California and known for their sensational vistas, rigorous trails and beautiful wilderness. At the end of the spring term, a team of SoBA students hiked to the "C" - a tradition for many who are part of UCR.  Led by management lecturer, Dr. Sean Jasso, he offered the "C Hikers" to take an even bigger challenge and aim for the "Three Devils" during the summer term.

The SoBA Hiking Team was created as four 2014 graduates: Ruben Loza, Brady Wold, Ryan Sherman, and Soroush Heidarpourmaleki, together with AGSM MBA second-year student and SoBA graduate, Nicolas Fiore, completed the "Three Devils”.  Additional members included friends and family of the team:  Caleb Jasso, Tyler Johnson and Michelle Manning.

The purpose of hiking a mountain is different for everyone, but the most instructive concept for the team was the careful preparation required for each hike. The team operated as a small enterprise with individuals responsible for separate functions of preparation. For each hiking day, the level of success was attributed to the preparation and overall strategy to achieve a safe, fun and successful hike.

As planning for the new academic year is underway, the SoBA Hiking Team will set out to do the trio of hikes again while also including regular "Hikes to the C" throughout the term. Information will be made available when instruction begins and you may contact Dr. Sean Jasso via email to learn more (sean.jasso@ucr.edu).  ‎
