The Department of Management and Marketing at AGSM is responsible for the design and staffing of undergraduate and graduate courses in both management and marketing.

Management

Management studies the roles of managers in organizations. Major topics include: employee behavior and motivation, bargaining, negotiation, team development, leadership and innovation, managing diversity, human resource management, strategic change, organization learning, top management team, managing competitive environments, corporate strategy and strategic alliances, and strategy formulation and implementation. At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the courses we offer in Management are designed to help students to learn such skills as leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, sound decision-making, oral & written communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, organizing and planning activities, diversity management, and cross-cultural skills. At the undergraduate level, Management students can choose their concentrations in the following areas: General Management, Human Resources Management, International Management, and Public Policy and Management. At the graduate level, we offer elective courses in Entrepreneurial Management, General Management, Human Resources Management/Organizational Behavior, and International Management.

Students interested in a Management concentration can enjoy very good career prospects. Management careers are found in all varieties of industries and sectors (government, the not-for-profit sector, education, or private industry). Many people enter management positions with a bachelor's degree. However, a Master's in Business Administration is essential in some areas for advancement. Marketing

Marketing plays an essential role in an organization - connecting the company with its customers. To do this, marketers study their customers and competitors so they can design product, promotion, pricing and distribution strategies that meet the needs and wants of the customer within a competitive marketplace.

Our faculty includes world-class researchers and teachers with backgrounds in psychology, behavioral decision making, economics, and statistics. The faculty publishes cutting-edge research in the leading scholarly marketing journals in areas such as e-commerce, consumer behavior and decision making, quantitative behavior models, and customer relationship management. At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the courses we offer are designed to expose students to the latest concepts and practices across key areas of marketing. In addition to courses covering product development, pricing strategy, advertising, and distribution management, course offerings include Internet Marketing, Global Marketing, and Database Marketing. Students interested in pursuing marketing careers can find employment in a wide variety of career paths in diverse areas of marketing including brand management, advertising, sales force management, and marketing research. Marketers are employed in large and small companies, as well as not-for-profit organizations.
